Electronic Resources - Creating Links to Resources
When NOT to add proxy (silk) prefix
All of the above systems will send users to the proxy server as needed.
Creating persistent links to individual resources
Individual databases and ejournal packages
Copy the
URL from the Research Databases Locator by right-clicking on the title of the resource on a Research Databases Locator page. Depending on your browser, the resulting menu will give you a choice that will be something like “Copy Link Location” or “Copy Shortcut.” Ctrl-V will paste the copied link into your page or record.
Individual EJournals
Individual Articles
Some vendors offer easily located persistent URLs, others do not. If the vendor does not place the proxy prefix which enables off campus access on the front of the
URL, you will need to supply it except in the cases listed on the upper section of this page. The prefix is:
http://silk.library.umass.edu/login?url=
The UMLinks menu will display a citation (and
URL capture feature) feature if you are linking from a database to an article or journal.
Ebooks
Check Aleph. There is probably a record for the title. You can copy the
URL from the holdings record.
