Bindery Journal Exceptions Workflow
for individuals tasked with reviewing exception requests

  • EAST retention: Review EAST database there is a retention commitment; if so, binding is appropriate
  • Portico: If there is not an EAST retention commitment, check the Title List to see if the title shows a Status of “Preserved”; if Preserved, confirm that we have an online subscription and if not, give the information to the Acquisitions Coordinator to update subscription to online only, if available; we generally do not bind journals preserved in Portico
  • EBSCOadmin: Review EBSCOadmin Holdings Management to see where the journal is accessible; there will also be an indication for Open Access
  • Online If you cannot find a title in EBSCOadmin or Portico, look in Ulrich's to determine status of publication; for titles determined to be Open Access, go online and confirm that you can get to the content
  • After review of all of the above, and in consideration of availability of binding funds, a determination will be made as to whether or not to bind.
