Repository

Overview

(Req, Rep, LOC Authorities)

Repository is technically considered a location type, but for the purposed of our database we treat it separately. If the work you are cataloging is a movable object use the Repository field to record where the work is currently housed.

Fields

Repository name

This is a field to record the display value for the place in which the work is housed or person or other entity in possession of the work. Use Library of Congress to formulate the display value. If there is no entry in LOC for the repository, use the repository's website to see what they call themselves.

Repository location

Record where the repository is located. Use “City, State”, “City, Province”, or “City, Country”.

Repository ID number

If the museum or collection number for the work is known, record that here. This is not a place to record a refid from the thesaurus used to create Repository record.

Repository type

Use Repository type to record the type of repository, e.g. museum, archives, etc. Try to use only those values currently in Luna. If none of these values are appropriate for the work your cataloging, see Brian or Steve.
