Who Can Print

Our printing services are available to anyone, but acceptable payment types are limited. Please see below for details.

Locations

Pay-for-print black & white and color printers are located in the Libraries on the:

  • Lower Level of the Du Bois Library
  • Main (2nd) floor of the Science & Engineering Library. 
  • Outside Graduate Commons on 5th floor of the Du Bois Library (black and white only)

Poster printing is processed in the Digital Media Lab in the W. E. B. Du Bois Library.

Printing Rates

Black & White 8.5 x 11 (Letter)  $0.05 per sheet 
Color 8.5 x 11 (Letter)  $0.35 per sheet 
Color 11 x 17 (Tabloid)  $0.70 per sheet 
Poster Printing Max width 42inches, length can vary  $0.02 per square inch 

Payment

  • Accepted Payment Types: UCard, Guest Card*, or Department Copy/Print Card**.   
  • No cash, credit or debit cards 
  • Add Money to your UCard or purchase a Guest Card (with a $1 deposit) at terminals in the Lower Level of the W. E. B. Du Bois Library.

*Obtain a Guest Card at a terminal in the Lower Level of the W. E. B. Du Bois Library. These machines accept $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills. Ask our Learning Commons staff for a specific location and for assistance.  

**Obtain a Department Copy/Print Card at the UCard Office, using an official speedtype#. Please note that the UCard office no longer supports ProCards.

Poster Printing

Library staff will produce your submitted poster. Poster can be full color and vary in sizes. See below for details.          

  • Dimensions
    • Minimum dimensions: Posters must have minimum dimensions of greater than 11 inches by 17 inches
    • Max Short Side of Poster: 41.5 inches
    • Max Long Side of Poster: Variable, contact staff for options beyond 60 inches
  • Paper: heavyweight, satin-finish photo paper 
  • File Type: PDF only 
  • Cost: $2.88 per square foot 
    • Cost will be emailed when completed 
  • Time
    • Spring and Fall Semesters: 3 Business Day Notice Required
    • Summer (June – August) and January: 5 Business Day Notice Required
  • Max Number of Copies Per Submission: 3 posters/copies per submission (If more posters/copies are required, please contact the Digital Media Lab for approval with your request at least 10 business days in advance.)
  • Accepted Payment Types

  • Formatting, Editing & Scaling: Digital Media Lab poster printing is intended solely for printing submitted files, as provided by users, with an emphasis on supporting student success and research.
    • Formatting, editing, and scaling of submissions will not be undertaken by the Digital Media Lab staff. We kindly request that your submissions be in their final, print-ready format, adhering to the specified guidelines on this page (i.e., minimum/maximum dimensions, file type, file size, ≥ 300 DPI resolution) for optimal printing quality.
    • Users are responsible for ensuring the copyright status (governed by the copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code)), accuracy, layout, and resolution of their submitted files. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

*If your file is larger than 1GB, share the file using a cloud storage service and share it to our service email, print3d@library.umass.edu.

Process Overview

  1. Make sure student’s poster file is the same size as the printed poster. If not, this can delay printing as the student will need to resize their poster.
  2. Students submit their poster files individually using our webform located on this page.
  3. Our service will print poster(s) and email students about pick-up days/times.
  4. Poster printing staff will email you the final cost.
  5. Acceptable payment type: Department Copy and Print Cards, request a card from the UCard Office.
