Welcome to SEL

The Science & Engineering Library (SEL) is located in the Lederle Graduate Research Center Lowrise on the north end of the UMass Amherst campus. The main entrance to SEL is located inside on the second floor.

SEL supports the following schools and colleges: 

  • The College of Engineering 
  • The Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences
  • The College of Natural Sciences
  • The Stockbridge School
  • The School of Earth and Sustainability
  • The Elaine Marieb College of Nursing
  • The School of Public Health and Health Sciences

Technology & Study Spaces

SEL has four floors, offering individual and group study areas throughout. Eight study rooms are bookable for groups of three or more. SEL provides access to public computers, copying machines, color and black-and-white printers, and scanners. Scientific and graphing calculators as well as USB-C DVD writers are available for loan at our information desk. 

The SEL Learning Studio is an instruction, presentation, and open study environment. If the Studio is not occupied for information literacy instruction or another event, it is available for study.

Research & Collections

SEL houses the print collections for physical and life sciences at UMass Amherst. It is the physical home of the Mass Aggie Seed Library and the Patent and Trademark Resource Center for western Massachusetts. The Science Board Game and Graphic Medicine Collections are easily accessible on our main floor. Scientific and graphing calculators as well as USB-C DVD writers are available for loan at our information desk.

Exhibits & Events

SEL hosts exhibits on the main floor and in the Mass Aggie Seed Library each semester. We also host a variety of events and workshops throughout the year to support research and build community.
