Eleventh Annual "Dinner with Friends" Raises $30,000
The eleventh annual "Dinner with Friends" on Saturday, April 6, 2013, was a great success. Sponsors, friends, and attendees raised nearly $30,000 for the new Digital Media Lab in the Du Bois Library. The event, hosted by the Friends of the UMass Amherst Libraries, featured a talk by New York Times bestselling mystery writer Archer Mayor.

Peregrine Falcons Nesting Atop Library Get New Camera
A pair of Peregrine Falcons, which have successfully nested on the roof of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library for the past eleven years, have a new, more powerful web camera. To date, three out of four falcon eggs have hatched. http://library.umass.edu/falcons (with support for both iOS and Android mobile devices.)
UMass Amherst Introduces "Green Monstah" E-Waste Recycling Center at Library
The Campus Sustainability Initiative is partnering with the UMass Amherst Libraries to provide an easy, centralized way for the campus community to recycle electronic products. The vestibule of the Du Bois Library is now home to the "Green Monstah" Electronic Waste Recycling Center. The campus community can now recycle small electronics like phone chargers, USB cables, iPods, and calculators, as well as light bulbs, ink cartridges, and non-alkaline batteries.
Libraries Sustainability Fund Wins Award
The Libraries Sustainability Fund is the winner of the prestigious Gale Cengage Learning Financial Development Award. The award is presented annually to a library organization which exhibits meritorious achievement in creating new means of funding for a public or academic library. The Libraries developed the Sustainability Fund to engage philanthropic support from faculty, students, alumni, and friends who recognize the value of the rapidly-growing field of sustainability studies.
Pioneers of Mass Aggie: Founders, Builders, and Innovators
The Libraries host an exhibit, "Pioneers of Mass Aggie: Founders, Builders, and Innovators," through May 13, 2013, on the Lower Level and on Floor 25 of Du Bois Library, UMass Amherst. "Pioneers" is the first of three exhibits to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the University of Massachusetts and will focus on the early history of "Mass Aggie," as the Massachusetts Agricultural College was known. A talk and reception will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The first hour of parking in the Campus Garage is FREE when your ticket is validated at the Learning Commons Desk .
There is a designated library liaison for every department and program on campus. Liaisons provide specialized research assistance for faculty and students via phone, e-mail or individual consultation. They also offer instruction on library resources and research methods and select library materials for purchase.
We are open 24/5 during the semester. Between Sundays from 11:00am and Fridays at 9:00pm we never lock our doors!
Students can check out Tablet/Laptop PCs and Projectors from the Reserves Department on the Main Floor of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library for use in the building.
The Image Collection Library (ICL) provides access and support for digital image resources for the UMass Amherst campus community.
The Libraries have initiated a project to replace the elevators in the Du Bois Library. One elevator at a time will be taken out of service. The project is expected to be complete by 2013.
The Library provides free access to
Atomic Learning, a service that supplies online instructional videos on a large variety of popular software programs. This service is available to the campus community and anyone using the Library.
The Learning Commons has 26 glass rooms specifically for group study. Groups of 3 or more take precedence over singletons.
The Learning Commons has a Poster Printing service. You can make an appointment to print posters up to 42” wide.
There are 8 high end Macs specifically designated for use by students working on video production projects. Ask about the multimedia pod at the LC tech desk.

The Libraries purchase licensed access to streaming online videos to enhance your educational experience. You can view educational videos, historical newsreels, and musical and theatrical performances any time of day, from wherever you have access to the Internet
You can see listings of new e-books, e-journals and databases and related announcements on the Electronic Resources Blog.
You can get help with your research from expert librarians. Come to the Reference Desk in the Learning Commons or the Science and Engineering Library in the Lederle Lowrise. You can also call, email, IM, or text.

The Libraries offer a wide variety of scholarly publishing services through

Students can borower laptops and multimedia equipment from the Circulation/Reserves Desk on the Lower Level of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library for use within the building.
