Getting Started with UMA WorldCat

Allow us to introduce you to UMA WorldCat - a discovery tool that helps you find a wide range of materials using a single search. Books, journals, articles, videos and more can be located using WorldCat and you can easily determine if the materials you need are located at UMass or in the 5 College system (these items will be listed first), or in libraries worldwide.  Starting with a simple single-searching interface, you will be able to organize your results by relevance or faceted categories, or you can easily refine your search in the advanced user interface.

Searching UMA WorldCat from Off-Campus

UMA WorldCat contains databases, such as Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, MEDLINE, etc., which UMass Amherst Libraries licenses for the UMass Amherst community. UMass Amherst users must login from off-campus with their UMass NetID and password to search the complete public and licensed components of UMA WorldCat. A non-proprietary, limited version of public UMA WorldCat is available for searching from off-campus.

When first getting started with using UMA WorldCat, we suggest the following guides that we have put together to help you on your way:

What Is/Isn't Included in UMA WorldCat

UMA WorldCat searches many resources concurrently, but not everything.  This page talks about which materials at UMass Amherst, in the Five Colleges, Boston Library Consortium and libraries worldwide are included in your search, and which materials are not included.

UMA WorldCat Features

This page covers many of the convenient and useful services that UMA WoldCat can provide.
