UMASS AMHERST LIBRARIES ANNOUNCE
DIGITAL SCHOLARSHIP & CONSULTATION SERVICES
Amherst, Massachusetts – The UMass Amherst Libraries announce a new service, Digital Scholarship & Consultation Services (DSCS). This consultation-based service is targeted to faculty and researchers, but is open to the entire campus community. DSCS supports the creation, curation, management, and long-term access and discovery of digital content. Library staff will advise on digital collections in support of instructional and research activities and are available to answer questions, help strategize on projects, and outline options to meet goals.
The UMass Amherst Libraries are active stewards of scholarship for the Libraries, the University, and the community. Despite the rapid transition from textual to digital media for creating instructional objects and scholarly works, the Libraries role of acquiring, organizing, providing access to, and preserving the scholarly and cultural record continues.
The scope of Digital Scholarship & Consultation Services ranges from one-on-one consultations to group workshops regarding content for individual classes or global sharing. Examples of these services include: capturing and processing images and learning objects to support classroom and research needs; assessing copyright concerns and obtaining clearances as appropriate, and helping staff to protect their own rights; developing digital publications, including conference proceedings and journals; research data management training and data management plan preparation; creating metadata solutions that are appropriate to each purpose and project; and digitization best practices.
